Mimi is our red and white female and our much loved pet. She is our first corgi, in fact, she is our first dog. I became interested in Pembroke Welsh Corgis after seeing one and then doing some reading and research on the breed. They sounded like my kind of dog, so we brought Mimi home in 2002. It did not take us long to decide that we would like to have another one!
Soon after Mimi's arrival, we had the good fortune to be introduced to Diane Gaskins, who has been breeding and showing corgis for years. We were lucky enough to be able to help socialize her pups in 2003. What fun! In June, we brought home one of the beautiful pups from her April litter, Thlot's Laugh Out Loud, or Rudy, who we co-own with Diane. Rudy is a show quality male sable and we are working hard to get both him and ourselves ready for this new adventure! Rudy's daddy, Ch. Brynlea It's All About Me, or Floyd, who finished his championship in Fall 2003. Congratulations Floyd! And Rudy, at six month old, passed the first leg of the Herding Instinct Test (HCT) in October, 2003. Go Rudy! Rudy has herding lessons at Keepstone Farm with Susan Rhodes in Berryville, VA. He hopes to pass the second leg of his HCT sometime in soon but is currently focusing on conformation.
We take them both up to York, PA, to Ramblewood Farm with Lisa Gilbert for obedience. They started Agility in Autumn 2004 at Crack the Sky Agility with Darleen Paul. They love it!!
Rudy made his debut in the conformation ring on November 5 - 7, 2004 in Salsbury, Maryland. He finished first in his class on both Friday and Saturday and took Reserve Winner on both days. On Sunday, he was second in his class. A very respectable first time out, we are all very proud of him!
On Sunday, February 21, 2005, at the Maryland Kennel Club show, 1st time showing in open class, Rudy took a 3 point major! He showed like a true champion!! And he is starting to really look more like his daddy, Floyd. His mom, Maire/Mouse gets a lot of the credit as well!!!
Rudy is a sire! Thlot Corgis is pleased to announce the arrival of a litter of 7 puppies. The proud mom is Thlot's Trillium (Lily), co-owned with Linda and Mark Leheney, and the proud dad is Thlot's Laugh Out Loud (Rudy), co-owned by Carol and George Openhym.
Show Updates:
August 7, 2005: Rudy earned a point each at the Carroll Kennel club and the Skyline Kennel Club this summer. He recently took his second 3 point major on Sunday, August 7, 2005, in Salem, VA with the New River Valley Kennel club, handled by Ferebe Simons. He looks forward to more shows in the comng weeks, including the Pembroke Welsh Corgi Club of America National Specialty.
August 14, 2005: Rudy took Winners Dog and Best of Winners at the Annapolis Kennel Club show under breeder judge Peggy Mickelson, who had very nice things to say about him during photographs. We are very proud of our boy! He has 9 points to date. His next shows will be in Rahleigh, NC with handler Ferebe Simons. Good luck Rudy!
